Course Load

The normal maximum course load is 16 hours for full-time students and 11 hours for part-time students in the fall and spring semesters. The maximum course load during the summer semester is 6 hours and is considered to be full-time study. Students registered for less than 12 hours in the fall or spring semester will be classified as part-time students, and may not register for fewer than 8 hours without written permission of the Dean of Students. Permission request forms are located here.

Full-time students may register for 17 hours without special permission if all first-year requirements are met and they have a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.3 or higher. Students who have met all first-year requirements but have a cumulative G.P.A. below 3.3 may register for 17 hours only with written permission of the Dean of Students. Permission request forms are located here.

Prerequisites

Prerequisites for courses are listed in the semester course schedule. Students will not be able to register for a course if prerequisites have not been fulfilled. If students fail to complete the prerequisite for a registered course, students may be required to adjust their schedules during the drop/add period.

Holds

Students are responsible for addressing any registration holds promptly, as holds will prevent registration. While the University usually notifies students with holds, it is essential for students to check their accounts online before registration to avoid surprises. Holds must be removed and students must be registered before federal loans can be disbursed.
