Pray: Prayer and Worship

Prayer and worship are central elements of any faith. For Catholics, the celebration of the Eucharist is the source and summit of the community’s life and mission around the world and at Saint Ö±²¥×ÔοÊÓƵ University.

In addition to providing opportunities for Catholic Mass and other communal prayer, SLU’s Department of Campus Ministry connects students of different faith traditions to vibrant congregations across the St. Ö±²¥×ÔοÊÓƵ area.

A Mass participant receives ashes on her forehead from a priest.

Students, faculty and staff are all invited to attend any of the available Ash Wednesday Lenten services that are offered around the University.

Liturgical Ministries

At Saint Ö±²¥×ÔοÊÓƵ University, we invite everyone to fully participate in the Liturgies of the Word and Eucharist. Campus Ministry trains student servers, lectors, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion and hospitality ministers who support the Campus Ministry 4:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. student Masses during the academic year.

Campus Ministry also coordinates the Mass of the Holy Spirit, All Souls' Memorial Mass, Ash Wednesday and Baccalaureate Mass.

Training programs are offered during the fall semester. We do require a reorientation for those who have been trained at their home parishes and dioceses. Email Julia Erdlen at julia.erdlen@slu.edu about liturgical minister training for SLU Student and University Masses.

Sunday Mass Choir

Volunteer student cantors, singers, and instrumentalists are invited to participate at Sunday Masses and other liturgical services supporting a mix of mainstream, traditional, and contemporary liturgical music.

When school is in session during the academic year, a small ensemble leads the music for the 4:30 pm. Sunday Mass, and a large choir and orchestra lead the assembly for SLU's Sunday Evening Student Mass. The choir rehearses from 6 to 7 p.m. each Tuesday and at 7:30 p.m., Sunday in College Church. Contact Choir Director Sally Iocca at sally.iocca@slu.edu for more information.

Upper Room

Lift your spirit alongside other faithful Billikens during praise services in the Jesuit Center chapel every Tuesday following the 8 p.m. Mass. Contemporary music, heart-changing preaching, and Eucharistic Adoration make for an exhilarating prayer experience. Come worship and pray with the body of Christ.
